WHITE
WATER RAFTING :
What is white water ? Whitewater is a condition of water
which is formed in a hilly river as rapid,
when a fast flowing river's gradient increases too much to disturb its
top laminar flow or layor and create turbulence and form a bubbly
& aerated water and unstable water current; that water appears
in white color and called white water .
White water rafting is known as very challenging & intresting recreational &
fun activity , Rafting is done in a hill river using an
inflatable raft to navigate a river . Rafting is usually done on
different degrees of rough river water, Grade of rapids adds
thrill and excitement the rafters Rafting started as a leisure
sport since the mid-1990s at Rishikesh in India.
What is Raft ? The raft is an inflatable boat, consisting
of durable, multi-layered rubberized fabrics with many
independent air chambers. The length of raft varies between 11
feet to 20 feet.
Rafting Grades:
Rafting is devided in different grades, small to medium and
higher.
Grade 1 rapids are very small rough areas, might require very
basic skills..
Grade 2 rapids have some rough water, maybe some rocks, might
require basic paddling skills required.
Grade 3 rapids have actual whitewater, with small waves, maybe a
small drop, but no considerable danger. May require experienced
paddling skills.
Grade 4 rapids have whitewater, medium waves, maybe rocks, maybe
a considerable drop, previous white water rafting experience is
a must.
Grade 5 Rapids have whitewater, large waves, large water volume,
possibility of large rocks and hazards, possibility of a large
drop, requires advanced Whitewater Experience.
Grade 6 Rapids are considered to be so dangerous as to be
effectively un navigable on a reliably safe basis. Rafters can
expect to encounter substantial whitewater, huge waves, huge
rocks and hazards, and substantial drops that will impart severe
impacts beyond the structural capacities and impact ratings of
almost all rafting equipment. Traversing a Class 6 rapid has a
dramatically increased likelihood of ending in serious injury or
death compared to lesser classes. And successful completion of a
Class 6 rapid without serious injury or death is widely
considered to be a matter of great luck or extreme skill.
